Emailing, blogging, digging, ecarding, stumbleuponing…Are you really connected?
June 10th, 2008 Categories: Community Events
So, if we are all using the internet to shop, promote all kinds of issues, comment on issues, reach out to others (strangers and loved ones), generally communicate and doing it 24 hours a day at lightening speed…..then why if we are sooooooooooo connected do some of us still feel so very alone? One of the lessons I have learned through my background in social work services, medical care and now real estate sales is that what every human desires most is real, live contact from another real, live human. Even the crabbiest old patient would soften and benefit from genuine, caring human contact. I sometimes wonder if we are more and more relying on the quick and easy internet to replace that closeness with other individuals that leads to personal insights and enlightenment in each other you simply can not get looking at a computer screen.
I know dating on line is massively used and successful and sometimes our friends and family live hundreds of miles away and the internet works to feel like we are still a daily part of their lives but I am talking more about making the absolute most of the face to face relationships we have the opportunity to actually spend time with. I hope that in this internet driven world we do not neglect real “person to person” relationships. Make just one extra attempt at face to face communication per day and I bet you will be the better person for it.
Thank you for listening and I hope you get out there and “interface” with someone face to face! Happy Connecting!
